Sunday Hike with the family

We were planning on going on Thursday, but the weather didn't look real good so we went on Sunday. I think the kids were a little tired from being at Uncle Scott's all day Saturday, but we went anyway. Took the typical up the stair case route and around to the western parking lot. Nick fell about 1/2 way through the hike and wasn't so ambitions about walking anymore so we had to carry him or bribe him the rest of the way.

There were a few geocaches on the mountain and although we looked we didn't find any. You can see that in the loops on the GPS map on the left side at an overlook and at the right side at the parking lot overlook. We did find a 12mp digital camera... Unfortunately the LCD screen was broken pretty good, but it does use the same battery and memory card as mine. So unless I can find the owner, I got some spare battery and card (2gb) space.

First Geocache

So on Saturday Lynn asked me if I've ever heard of geocache. I've heard of it, wasn't really that interested but I was surprised that she mentioned it. She thought it would be fun, so I'm game. We did a real simple one in the area after we went out for dinner. Kids had a blast following the arrow on the GPS and then searching for something. The cache itself was hard to find, but we found it. Angie really, really, really wants to go again. Here is where we found it...

Here is the pose shot. You can see Angie holding the cache, it was basically a rolled up paper with people putting their names on it as they found it. Some as old as 2005. Fun.

Have to say that I had fun.

Ride is inconclusive

Did 30 minutes on the bike during lunch. Had some of that familiar pain in the middle which made me think it wasn't fixed, but it went away and had some other pains else where. So I'm not sure if its fixed or not, but it doesn't seem any worse... Maybe this weekend I'll do it again and see what difference 4 days or so makes.

Going to test the knee...

Going to go for a ride on the cross bike for a little today (hopefully). It feels good enough to ride, figure it was time to give it a little work. Don't think it will prove anything. Won't go long enough to know for sure. Can't check for swelling since it is still slightly swollen and it wouldn't surprise me to have a little swelling from the surgery after riding. If it does hurt, don't really know if its the problem not being fixed or just surgery recovery.

Should feel good to get back on a bike though. :)

Paris

Got to Paris this Monday morning and am leaving tomorrow. Most of the time was spent at work, but I did get a little time on Monday when it was raining and a few hours in the nice weather today. Went on the cathedral run (love those old things) and saw the Notre Dame, St. Severin, St. Sulpice and some others. The rose line was pretty cool, missed that the first time I did my whirlwind tour. I didn't get to see Sainte-Chapelle because of the line. :( Photos here.

I went into the Louvre also, twice to be exact. Never had a real desire but it was really cool, so much that I went back on Thursday for two hours. I also learned my first french word... Louvre = helplessly lost. I have a good sense of direction, but my god it was easy to get lost in that labyrinth. The crowds were around the Mona Lisa. But this was the hardest thing to find.

The food in Paris is first rate. One good mean after another, even if you do have to wait till 7pm before dinner is served. I tried the Escargot which in the Oily Basil is excellent. I also found something I never expected, Tartare. Its basically raw ground steak. I like raw ground beef, never thought anyone one actually serve it. This stuff is A+ excellent. Shame I won't get it again. :(

The bike and motorcycle culture is really cool. The bikes and motorcycles/scooters just flow through the cars like water and no one gets upset or does something stupid. Lots of respect. Makes me want to get a motorcycle to compliment my bikes. :) They had lots of interesting vehicles like this one.
